Great analysis.

I particularly hate the way that the cycle you talk about obscures how good the idea is, because of the execution, and fad fatigue. Some fads are built on stupid ideas. Some are built on great ones, And some are built on great ideas but often poorly executed.

People who dismiss an idea wholesale just because the hype makes it seem like a fad are doing themselves a disservice, which is their own lookout, but also doing the idea one, which is frustrating, particularly with something I love, like gamification.
